Phil "Honolulu" '66 B Series
Vintage, glass off & clean. By Randy Rarick. 9’ 10” X 22
¾” W , Black glass on speed fin – Single redwood stringer, small
square tail. Designed to ride smaller waves on South
Shore, Oahu.
Phil
Edwards was a phenomenal shaper and surfer with his laid back
style, 1st to build a signature model. His was the 3
Stringer, gold foil Lam., generally a wood reverse fin, built in’63
+ ’64.
Phil
Edwards is also featured in The Endless Summer. Phil built a few 3
stringer long boards for the Big Wednesday crew in the mid 70’s, and
many people on the set in Mexico said they were blown away by the
ride. Set in Mexico (Puerto Escondido) or little Pipeline.
He
also ran operations for Hobie Alter on the “Hobiecat”. Phil
still made a few boards on Oahu under the Hobie name, mainly big
wave guns. He went on to shape under his own name “Honolulu”,
Island Long Boards, big wave guns, semi guns, and transition short
guns (Pintails).
This
board has never been in the water after the restoration. Don’t pass
on this one.
